United Bible Studies - So As To Preserve The Mystery International

"Incredible Adventures" by Evening Fires

Incredible Adventures is a sister release to Where I've Been Is Places and What I've Seen Is Things (out simultaneously on LP from Sunrise Ocean Bender records), and features longer tracks from the same sessions that didn't quite fit on that album. Opening with a strum-along hymn to the north 40, concluding via an extended plunge into the great beyond (as begun on Where I've Been...), and in between traversing a pair of drifting electronic landscapes that offer glimpses of ambient jazz and gloomy kosmische vistas. As a companion piece to the LP, Incredible Adventures (titled after a book by Algernon Blackwood) delves deeper into the album's terrain, while also expanding into some uncharted spaces out beyond. Four tracks, 38 minutes.

United Bible Studies - So As To Preserve The Mystery

"So As To Preserve The Mystery" by United Bible Studies

United Bible Studies return to Deep Water with what may be one of the crowning achievements of their ongoing musical journey. Since 2001 the Ireland/UK-based experimental folk ensemble has explored sounds ranging from traditional balladry to avant-garde noise; and while So As To Preserve The Mystery features plenty of the haunting vocal melodies and collective improvisation for which the group is known, it also rises beyond any genre and stylistic limits via an extended compositional logic that feels both centuries old and brand new. Alchemically marrying lo-fi psychedelic drones with sweeping orchestral arrangements, poetic folk song and classical structures; all in support of heartfelt paeans to nameless gods, apocalyptic requiems for the new/old world, and an overwhelming sense of wonder at the natural beauty of Éire and the Western Isles; this is United Bibles Studies at their transcendent finest. Seven tracks, 40 minutes.

United Bible Studies - Airs of Sun and Stone

United Bible Studies - Airs of Sun and Stone We're huge fans of the Irish collective known as United Bible Studies , so it's a great pleasure to be able to bring back one of the best of their earlier limited releases. Originally out on the group's own Deserted Village label in 2005 and OOP since around then, Airs of Sun and Stone documents a complete live set recorded at a Limerick arts festival in an old church on a Sunday morning. One extended improvisational piece (nearly 40 minutes) by a special quartet version of the group (plus dance troupe), featuring harp, guitars, piano, and percussion, it's a perfect avant-folk morning raga. This edition features a complete sonic remaster and lovely new cover art.

Airs of Sun and Stone and The Rural Arcane reviewed at Ptolemaic Terrascope Online

Originally released in 2005 on their own Deserted Village label, "Airs of Sun and Stone" is one long live improvised piece, recorded in St Johns Church Limerick as part of the Limerick Arts Festival. ... As with all their releases this is highly recommended to anyone with a passion for music that comes directly from the heart, a glorious trip that will soothe and inspire you.

As most of you will know, Agitated Radio Pilot is the outlet for the solo work of David Colohan, also known as the vocalist for United Bible Studies. On this Double CD he mixes a keen ear for melody with drones, experimentation and a healthy imagination, creating a work of timeless magnificent beauty.
